What The Bible Says About A Mother's Strength

What the Bible Says About a Mother’s Strength

Mother’s Day can stir up a mix of emotions. For some, it’s a joyful celebration of the women who’ve loved, guided, and prayed us through every season. For others, it may be a day marked by longing, loss, or complex relationships. Wherever you find yourself today, we believe God sees you, loves you, and wants to meet you right where you are. At its heart, Mother's Day is about honoring the strength and love God has placed within women. It’s about celebrating not only biological mothers, but also spiritual mothers, grandmothers, adoptive and foster moms, single moms, mentors, and every woman who chooses to nurture, serve, and lead with compassion.

The Bible is filled with stories of strong women whose lives point us to God’s strength.

  • Hannah (1 Samuel 1–2) prayed with perseverance, believing that God heard her cries even before her prayers were answered.
  • Mary, the mother of Jesus, surrendered her future with faith and courage, saying, “May it be to me as you have said” (Luke 1:38).
  • Lois and Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5) passed on their sincere faith to the next generation, shaping the legacy of one of the early church’s great leaders.
  • Esther risked everything to speak up for her people, trusting God’s timing and courageously living out her purpose “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
  • Rahab, once seen as an outsider, chose faith and became part of God’s redemption story—eventually listed in the genealogy of Jesus (Matthew 1:5).
  • Ruth (Ruth) showed unwavering loyalty and love, stepping into the unknown with trust in God and becoming the great-grandmother of King David.
  • The Proverbs 31 woman is described as “clothed with strength and dignity” (Proverbs 31:25), using her wisdom to build up her family and her community.

These women weren’t perfect. They had doubts, faced pain, endured trials—but their strength came from God. And that same strength is available to every woman today.

To every woman who mothers:

Whether you’re wiping tears or praying in silence, juggling work and family or walking through a quiet house, your strength matters. Your love reflects the heart of God. And your impact stretches further than you can see. “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” —Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)

A Prayer for You Today:

God, thank You for the women who lead with love, serve with humility, and walk with faith—even when no one sees. Give strength to the tired, hope to the discouraged, and peace to the grieving. Bless every woman who nurtures life—in others, in their homes, and in their communities. Remind them that You see them, and You are with them. Amen.

As a church, we celebrate you. We stand with those who rejoice, and we sit beside those who grieve. And we thank God for the strength He gives each of you.
