MISSION: WE EXIST TO HELP PEOPLE EXPERIENCE LIFE WITH JESUS

WE ARE PEOPLE OF TRUTH AND LOVE

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.     Matthew 4:18 - 22

“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.”               Matthew 4:19b

A Disciple is experiencing life with Jesus, being changed by the Spirit, and committed to the mission of God.

A DISCIPLE IS EXPERIENCING LIFE WITH JESUS.

What does it mean to experience life with Jesus?

It means a disciple is one who is following Jesus.

Jesus called His disciples.

Jesus asked for total and lifelong commitment.

“The one who has found his life will lose it, and the one who has lost his life for my account will find it.”                       Matthew 10:39

Jesus called outsiders.

Jesus exposed His disciples to danger.

Jesus rewarded His disciples.

The Son of Man is going to come and He will repay every person according to their deeds.     Matthew 16:27

Where would we go? In You we have the words of eternal life. John 6:68

A DISCIPLE IS BEING CHANGED BY THE SPIRIT.

How Does the Holy Spirit Change Us?

He guides us into all truth.                                                        When He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…      John 16:13a

He convicts us of sin.                                                                         And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.  John 16:8

He illuminates God’s Word to us.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.                                 1 Corinthians 2:12

He produces fruit to grow our intimacy with God and to resist evil.                                                                                               But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.     Galatians 5:22 - 23a

A DISCIPLE IS COMMITTED TO THE MISSION OF GOD.

How many of us are disciple makers?
