SEARCHING FOR SATISFACTION
SEARCHING FOR SATISFACTION
I’m not satisfied with…
My cell phone/cell phone coverage
My financial situation
My body/physical health
My parenting
How I am living my life
In 1965 the lyrics to “I can’t get no satisfaction” were written by Mick Jagger.
King Solomon could not get any satisfaction.
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes 1:2 (NIV)
I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 1:13a (NIV)
I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired male and female singers, and a harem as well—the delights of a man’s heart.
Ecclesiastes 2:4 - 8 (NIV)
King Solomon went on a 40 year search for satisfaction, instead he ended up lost, wandering through life.
His final conclusion…
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV)
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. Psalms 95:6 (NIV)
Develop a heart of worship.
How can we develop a heart of worship?
Be still.
Confess.
Meditate on God’s Word.
Practice the presence of God.
God deserves our complete obedience.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27 (NIV)
