The Unexpected Path to Happiness

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “happy”? Maybe you imagine friends or loved ones gathered together for a meal. You might think about a happy memory or a time in your life when you felt whole and complete. For some, it might be hard to even remember feeling happy because of a current situation you might be facing. We all want to be happy, but what does it actually mean to be happy? Where does happiness come from, and how do we continue on that path throughout our lives?

There is a section of scripture called The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-11) where Jesus shares several statements to people listening on the hill about the path towards happiness. The word beatitude comes from the Latin word beatus and it means to be both “happy” and “blessed.” Regardless of whether you have read through the Beatitudes one hundred times or you are reading them for the very first time in this study, there is always something to learn from the teachings of Jesus.
